About

ABOUT ME

I am a Zimbabwean-born academic currently living and working in Cape Town, South Africa. I am the Head of the Department of Retail Business Management in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). Besides my departmental leadership and management responsibilities, I remain a dedicated life-time academic and as such I teach Applied Retail Research to 4th year undergraduate students and Advanced Research Methodology to Master of Retail Business Management Degree students. I am so passionate about knowledge generation and knowledge dissemination and as an educator I view my work as a calling. My research interests are in the areas of Strategic Brand Management, Place Marketing, Digital Marketing and Retail Business Management. Of late I have also developed an insatiable desire to do research in the field of technology-based teaching and learning.

I earned my doctoral degree at CPUT and the focus of my thesis was on how Zimbabwe could be re-branded through a transformative nation branding process. For this doctoral study, I administered questionnaires on 432 respondents and conducted 25 in-depth interviews in Zimbabwe, South Africa and in several other countries. My Master of Science in Marketing Degree was awarded by the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Zimbabwe and my Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree in Marketing Management was duly awarded by the Midlands State University (MSU) also in Zimbabwe. The dissertation of my Master’s degree focused on the re-branding of commercial banks in Zimbabwe and my Honours degree research focused on mobile marketing in the telecommunications sector in Zimbabwe. In 2021, I successfully completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education Studies at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

In between these major qualifications, I have done other courses to capacitate myself to be a better academic and to keep up with the demands of the ever-changing world. I am currently studying for Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) with the University of South Africa (UNISA). In the foreseeable, I hope to do a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Studies at UCT and another  Master’s Degree Specialising in Data Science. By 2024, I hope to have obtained a Private Pilot Licence (PPL).

I regard myself as a go-getter and I am strongly motivated by the challenges of life. Having grown up in a peasant family in which the next meal was never guaranteed, the greatest lesson that I earned from this “university of life” is that perseverance pays and as such, the word “never” is not part of my diction.

When I am not teaching or doing my routine management work, I enjoy reading, running and travelling. Two of my weirdest dreams (which I hope to achieve though) are to visit all the countries in this world before I die and to one day become a pilot……and fly high!!
